The next S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price report is due Tuesday morning at 9 AM ET. Lately prices have been showing signs of softness with lower annual gains reported each month compared to the previous month. While most economic indicators are looking better, housing and home building are sending mixed signals. But before writing off housing or expecting it to hurt the recovery, remember that in the long run home prices roughly keep pace with inflation, not outrun it. Home ownership is not a guaranteed route to wealth.
