How Housing Looks at Year-End

The October 2014 S&P/Case-Shiller  Home Price Index will be released on Tuesday December 30th at 9 AM. Will  the pace of price gains continue to fade in the new year? Will the housing rebound end? Or will  prices surge again?   Check the figures on Tuesday morning for hints to 2015.

    I hope you don’t rely on Zillow too much for your housing numbers. I have noticed that in some condo complexes the exact same unit single story all without upgrades or views can vary as much as 300%. What’s going on? This has got to skew numbers a bunch. It is artificially making the price appreciation seem higher than it is. I know because I did live there and check values. This is in Arizona. The places are not for sale and are not reflecting anything close to market value by Zillow.

      We do not use any data from Zillow. The data all come from property tax filings in local and county property tax offices. The prices are based on actual sales transactions; there are no appraisals or estimates used. Thank you for the comment.
